Ronan Farrow's memory

I had no intention of writing another entry on the blog today, but in the past few weeks I've seen many forums where people reinforced their position saying something like "and his brother Ronan also remembers everything and says it's true." Normally I ignored those messages wondering where such an obvious falsehood could have originated. Now I know: it comes from Ronan Farrow himself. I must admit that I had overlooked the writings of Ronan Farrow in order to try to delve more deeply into the case. After all, what could he say that would throw light on the relevant events? Strangely enough, he appears to feel otherwise. To my surprise, in his now famous "My Father, Woody Allen, and the Danger of Unasked Questions", Ronan claimed:

I believe my sister. This was always true as a brother who trusted her, and, even at 5 years old, was troubled by our father's strange behavior around her: climbing into her bed in the middle of the night, forcing her to suck his thumb — behavior that had prompted him to enter into therapy focused on his inappropriate conduct with children prior to the allegations.

So it is Ronan himself who states that he remembers a series of behaviors from his father that bothered him when he was five years old. The problem is that Ronan was born on December 19, 1987, and that since January of 1992 Woody Allen was only allowed to have supervised visits one day a week with his children. On December 19, 1991, Ronan turned four and any memory he may have of his father's relationship with his sister must go back to when he was three years old.

Ronan Farrow does not remember anything about his father. He does not even remember that he was three years old then. How is it possible that he did not realize that when writing the article?

Certainly, he does not remember Allen climbing at night to his sister's bed or Allen forcing his sister to suck his thumb. On the custody hearing it was established that Allen did not force Dylan to suck his thumb; Allen allowed Dylan to suck his thumb when she tried. That is, he did not remove it when she put it into her mouth. On the other hand, while Ronan and Dylan lived (and slept) with their mother in Central Park, Allen lived and slept on the other side of the park in his own apartment. It's impossible for Ronan to remember his father climbing into his sister's bed in the middle of the night, because in the middle of the night Allen was in his apartment, not in Mia's. According to Kristi Groteke's account until the summer of 1992 (Ronan would be four and a half years old), Allen went up in the morning (never at night), went into the room and lay on the floor until the children woke up:
She found that he would enter their room while they slept and just lie there on the floor until they opened their eyes. "I thought it peculiar," she remarked. (page 135)

Finally, Ronan can hardly remember anything about his father's therapy. He should take into account the lawyer's principle of prudence and verify that in Wilk's judicial sentence there are several psychologists and none of them was Allen's therapist. Allen was not in therapy focused on his inappropriate behaviors. Five lines of text and four false facts. That's quite a record.

What is the problem? Is Ronan a liar? I don't want to think so, but it seems that he assumes as his own memories stories that he has heard, things that have been told or gossip that has been whispered in his ear. He assumes as his own the memory of things that he has never lived, and he does it in such an uncritical fashion that he remembers witnessing things when he was five years old that were impossible to have happened then.
